Notes
Meeting 2nd March 2016
Facilitator: Michelle Honey
Agreed:
- Meeting topic/focus to be agreed at the previous meeting
- Canvas TLC Course to be a public course - exercise caution if posting material that may be confidential or sensitive
Meeting topic list is on the Canvas Course; please add further topics as they spring to mind
Topic: Canvas Hacks Demonstration / Angela Tsai
Please see Angela’s presentation on the Canvas Course
To note:
- All are encouraged to log into Canvas Hacks on the LTU section of the University website and have a wander through.
- All are encouraged to make a test page to get familiar with the assistance and tools available – hint: name your page with a ‘Z’ as the files are listed alphabetically – this should prevent accidental publishing of your playpen.
- Exercise caution when making your course pages attractive – some students access Canvas on small hand-held devises and probably want to see more than a beautiful picture without excessive scrolling or multiple clicks to get the links they require quickly and easily.
- Borrow codes and styles that you like – it isn’t plagiarism if it’s available for you to use on Canvas Hacks – or ask others that have desirable bits that you would like to use
- Remember to check what your files and course looks like by checking student view frequently – they have access to significantly less than other do
- Be careful to safeguard your existing pages when making style changes – copy & paste your existing page onto notepad, or you can, if needed, restore your previous page by going to settings and viewing page history if your revised page doesn’t work out
