 Summary of Course Description:              

To develop academic language knowledge and skills specific to their research area so that students can become able to read, discuss and write about their Honours research in Japanese.

 Assessment Summary:

704A:

30% (15% x 2)   Essays

20%                  Take-home test

704B: 

35 %    Written project 

15 %    Oral presentation of the Honours research summary (or equivalent) in Japanese

 Workload and deadlines for submission of coursework:           

The Project (Japanese into English) can take any form as long as it is deemed to enhance students’ research specific knowledge of the Japanese language. The project needs to be approved by the student’s supervisor in consultation with the JAPANESE 704 coordinator. The project can be: an annotated translation of literature used in the Honours thesis; summaries of literature used in the thesis, a translation project for students from the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation, etc.

The workload of the 704 Project should roughly be an equivalent of producing a 2000-word research essay in English (30 hours).
