Take home tests

Draft

Some guidelines are available here: https://remotelearning.auckland.ac.nz/assessments/

For semester 1 tests worth more than 5% had to be available for a 24 hour period.  For semester 2 this requirement has been removed, i.e. you are permitted to have timed tests scheduled for release at a particular time (give careful thought to the time zone of any overseas students that you have in your course when choosing a time, for some students you may need to run an earlier session due to time zone considerations).

Peter to put further guidelines together ASAP including

discuss relative merits of different versions

Cover off resources that exist on canvas quizzes

New assessment policy update document (what is allowed - still may get some updates)

Crowdmark (check licensing)

How to get students to upload a pdf

There are multiple apps which allow students to turn a smartphone into a scanner.  Using one of these is a *really* good idea as the typically result in easy to ready files that are nicely lined up, correctly oriented, trimmed, in order and not too large.

Here are three apps to consider (All available for both ios and android devices)

As far as I know the first two options are free and obviously will play nicely with adobe and MS products respectively.  Adobe scan seems to have a shallower learning curve than MS Office Lens but Lens integrates nicely with office related products.  For making a pdf I prefer Adobe scan over Lens.  CamScanner and Adobe scan are pretty similar in terms of functionality.

CamScanner seems to have moved towards a subscription model just recently (it used to be you got the free version and then paid a few dollars to get the ad free version).  While I’ve been very happy with it and they have offered their premium version free for all students and educators during covid 19, I suspect that going forward Adobe scan or MS Office Lens may be preferable.
