Holding tutorials on Zoom - tips and tricks

When needed,  you might find these resources useful for setting up, running and recording Zoom tutorials to replace face to face sessions.

As tutors, you should have a Zoom  Pro Licence - if you do not, contact the faculty to get upgraded.

There are How to guides on the Remote Learning Website for setting up Zoom meetings with your group,  using the various features such as screen sharing, breakout rooms and recording your sessions.  Click on the link below and scroll down to Guides to using Zoom:

Attached is a file Useful Tips from Zoom about virtual classrooms   It has useful information on planning for and structuring sessions.

You should plan your virtual sessions as you do your face to face ones:

  • have clear learning outcomes or aims for the session
  • share the plan on a slide at the start
  • have some activities organised that involve interaction - use the icebreaker or the group work ones that adapt easily
  • have questions ready as prompts for discussions
  • use the breakout rooms for smaller discussion groups  - see the Zoom instructions site linked above on how to do that and how to get them back to the main room again
  • have some way of ending the session well so they come back next time
  • record it all for people who cannot attend
