Practical Language Teaching

Description

The course is developed mainly for pre-service English language teachers. The main aims of this course are:

  • to help student teachers to develop an understanding of the procedures, techniques and options used in teaching language lessons
  • to help student teachers to design and deliver effective language lessons for a variety of contexts or learner groups
  • to introduce student teachers to a variety of tools for teacher development such as peer teaching, peer observation, and reflective teaching

Course teaching format

The course is taught through a combination of lectures, group discussions and group demonstrations in class. Students are also required to arrange meetings in small groups with the lecturer for assignments. Students are required to participate in all classes. Sessions 8, 9, 10 and 11 are compulsory. Students are also expected to check announcements on Canvas, view and participate in online discussion forums on Canvas or Coursebuilder/Flexible Learning as appropriate.
