The course aims to develop the basic proficiency in modern Japanese (speaking, listening, reading and writing) necessary to communicate in limited situations. The course will also introduce some sociocultural aspects directly related to language-use situations. The prescribed textbook can be obtained from the University Bookshop. Students must attend the plenary lecture plus streamed classes.
