If you are a student

If you are experiencing any form of bullying and/or harassment, there are different ways you can report it and get support. All of the options mentioned below are confidential and free.

If you are a student

If it is another student who is bullying or harassing you

Then your options include the following:

You can fill out an online form here - your report will be sent to the Proctor who will follow up with you.
You can contact the AUSA Advocacy service, which provides independent support, advice and information to students.
You can contact Te Rōpū Whakamana Tangata – this Faculty of Arts group provide support for students whose wellbeing has been impacted by acts of harassment, bullying, or other behaviours that diminish the mana and tapu of individuals or groups.
If the bullying and/or harassing by another student is happening in a course, either in lectures, tutorials or online components of the course, you can report it to your lecturer.

If a member of staff is bullying or harassing you (e.g. a lecturer or tutor)

Your options include the following:

You can speak, if appropriate, to your lecturer or (if your concern is about the lecturer) to the Academic Head of your lecturer.
In the Faculty of Arts we have an Academic Heads for the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics, the School of Humanities, the School of Social Sciences and Te Wānanga o Waipapa (Māori Studies and Pacific Studies)
You can contact the AUSA Advocacy service. They can provide you with advice about, and support with, speaking to an Academic Head about bullying or harassment by a tutor or lecturer.
You can contact Te Rōpū Whakamana Tangata – this Faculty of Arts group provide support for students whose wellbeing has been impacted by acts of harassment, bullying, or other behaviours that diminish the mana and tapu of individuals or groups. They can also give you advice about both informal and formal paths you can take to resolve the issue.

If you ever feel unsafe on campus due to bullying or harassment, you can call the 24/7 university Security emergency number on 0800 373 7550 (or 966 on an internal university phone). If you feel in immediate danger, dial 111 for police assistance.

If you are a staff member

If you are being bullied or harassed by someone working or studying at the University

You have different options for reporting it:

The Faculty of Arts Support Network includes staff from across the faculty, who are there if you want to speak to someone in confidence about anything that is impacting your wellbeing, including bullying harassment. They will direct you to further support that is available and let you know how to proceed with a formal complaint, should you wish to do so.

If you are being bullied or harassed by someone external to the university

Your options are:

You can report it to your Academic Head or line manager.
You can call the Staff Service Centre, who have staff trained and able to assist you with this type of incident (ext. 86000 or 09 923 6000).
You can seek support from the faculty's Support Network, even just for a chat and a friendly face.
