TeachWell @ UoA #2
So many aspects impact on how we facilitate. Some considerations can be found in this module, including:
- ideas and strategies to engage students
- design for diverse students and
- feedback for learning
A focus on what the students do to learn - or an activity-based design - can make a difference to how learning is presented in a course: “Active learning is generally defined as any instructional method that engages students in the learning process. In short, active learning requires students to do meaningful learning activities and think about what they are doing” (Prince, 2004).
The following clip from the University of Wollongong captures what some teachers think about and do to offer active learning. How can we design and facilitate reading or listening tasks to support active learning? Which strategies do you use for students to interact with content, peers or you as the teacher, in short to build in interaction?
What is active learning?
