Class reps can act as an intermediary between students in the class and the lecturers and tutors. You can share with them any suggestions/complaints/remarks that you aren't comfortable discussing directly with one of the teaching staff (Ann, Aniket or James).

Course Resources and Getting Help

Piazza is the main forum we will be using for asking and answering questions.  It works well, particularly while we are not on campus, so you are encouraged to participate asking and answering questions there.

You are always very welcome to contact any of the teaching staff if you have any queries or concerns.

Since we are online for the first half of the semester at least, Ann and the lab tutors will be holding Zoom help sessions.  Details of these Zoom help sessions will be announced at the beginning of the semester.

Assessments and Pass Requirements

To pass the course, you need to obtain at least 50% overall as well as passing the practical (labs) and theory (test plus exam) separately.   The test (at 6:30pm on Wednesday 13th April) is worth 20% of your final mark and the exam is worth 50% of your final mark.  The labs are worth 30% of your final mark.

Mid-Semester Test (13th April)

  • Worth:  20% of your final mark and will be marked out of 100.
  • Time: 6:30pm until 8pm (NZ Time) on Wednesday 13th April.
  • Length of test: You have 90 minutes to complete the test.
  • Material covered: Lectures 1 - 14 inclusive and Labs 1 - 5 inclusive.
  • Venue: The test will be held online (in your own home).
  • Type of Test: The test will be on Inspera and will be short answers (not multi-choice).
  • Please practise using Inspera to answer test questions by doing the two practice tests which are available on Canvas under Assignments / Past Year Tests and Exams (for practice).
  • Any concerns please email Ann Cameron.

Course Expectations

You are expected to attend all lectures (or watch the lecture recordings) before doing your labs.  As we will be online for the at least the first half of the semester, there will also be a short tutorial recording which you need to watch before doing the lab.  Zoom help sessions will be available for you to drop into when you need help with your lab.
