FRENCH 102: Introductory French Language 2

French 102 follows on directly from French 101 and uses the same Blended Learning class structure, Deux Mondes text, on-line lessons and assessments. NB: apart from Class 1, Cliquez-ici Lessons are to be prepared before class (see Course Planner)

On-Line Lessons: Cliquez-ici ! 4 hours / wk accessible via Canvas.

On-Campus Taught Classes: 2 x 90 minutes. Please check stream and room on Student Services Online (Rooms are booked for full 2 hour periods, classes start @ 15 minutes past the hour and end 15 minutes before the hour)

Office hour: 10 minutes after each class. You are welcome to make an appt if you wish to see your teacher individually outside of these times.

 WHO MAY ENROL?

The course is designed for students who have passed French 101 OR for students who have achieved 12-16 credits in Level 2 NCEA French. It is NOT open to students eligible for French 203 or who have passed a higher level course in French language. All students enrolling in the University for the first time must obtain departmental approval to enrol in the course.

Prescribed Texts: Deux Mondes 7th Edition including access to on-line Connect+ assignments. Hardcover + Connect+ access available from Ubiq at discounted price of $146.70  (instead of $163.00).

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the course, students obtaining a pass grade will demonstrate a competent working knowledge of language topics up to and including chapter 10 in Deux Mondes, as set out in the course planner. Students will be confident in applying this knowledge to the four skills areas of reading, listening, speaking and writing. You will increase your working vocabulary by 500-600+ words and will be confident in the following topic areas, both orally and in writing: everyday activities; narrating past situations and events; giving complex instructions; making offers, invitations and requests, plans and future predictions; expressing obligation, necessity and prohibitions; taking about food, tastes, the environment, health, education, careers and travel.
